Nanaimo Foundation 2015/2016 Annual Report
The 2015/2016 year has been another successful year at the Nanaimo Foundation in making meaningful and lasting impacts in the communities we serve. We proudly welcomed eight new endowment funds, and together with our generous donors, distributed a total of $491,000 in grants to more than 25 local organizations.
Thanks to support from the Community Foundations of Canada and the Community Fund for Canada’s 150th, the Nanaimo Foundation’s annual granting capacity more than doubled, creating a historical year of giving for the Nanaimo Foundation. In addition to our annual Vital Nanaimo Fund grants, the Nanaimo Foundation provided several designated and flow-through grants, including funding to United Way Central and Northern Vancouver Island from the Welcome Fund for Syrian Refugees to assist with settlement efforts, and a grant towards the construction of Eden Gardens, the Nanaimo Travellers Lodge Society’s new dementia care home.
Over the past year, the Nanaimo Foundation has been honoured to assist the establishment of dedicated community funds for both Ladysmith and Gabriola Island. Committees in these two communities have come together to lead the creation of these community funds. Thank you to Gerry Stefanson of Gabriola Island, and Bruce Whittington of Ladysmith, for leading the charge in your communities.
In an effort to increase the Nanaimo Foundation’s opportunities to address local needs and enhance Nanaimo’s health and vibrancy, the Nanaimo Foundation Community Engagement Committee was formed this year. Thank you to the 13 founding members of this committee who volunteer their time to advance the Nanaimo Foundation’s mission and its unique role in the community.
Our work, and the support we provide to our community, is made possible by the contributions of our many generous donors and volunteers, past and present.
Thank you to each one of our countless volunteers, community partners and supporters.
