Community Fund Committees
The Nanaimo Foundation has served the communities of Gabriola Island and Ladysmith for more than 30 years. We provided our first grant to Gabriola Island in 1985, and our first grant in Ladysmith in 1987.
The notion of both the Gabriola Island Community Fund and the Ladysmith Community Fund came from residents of these two communities. Understanding the important role community foundations play in supporting strong communities, Gerry Stefanson of Gabriola Island and Bruce Whittington of Ladysmith approached the Nanaimo Foundation and together we began exploring ways to increase support to these two communities with dedicated community funds.
