Tom Harris Community Foundation
In June 2017, our community lost a well-respected and highly regarded friend. Tom Harris was known for his enduring dedication to supporting our community through his generosity, volunteerism, and community spirit that has forever enriched Nanaimo.
Thank you, Tom, for more than 16 years of service on our Nanaimo Foundation Board of Directors. It has been an absolute honour and a privilege to know you, work alongside you, and benefit from your guidance.
We truly feel a deep sense of loss for our community and personal sadness in the passing of a dear friend.
You have left an indelible impact on all of us, and it is our hope that in everything we do, we’ll do you proud, Tom.
As a third generation Nanaimoite, I feel it is important to give back to the community that has given me so much. It is an exciting time to be a supporter of the Nanaimo Foundation and to be a part of the difference being made in our community.
In 2014, Tom felt it was time to create an endowment fund in the name of the Harris family. Tom’s grandparents and father were born in Nanaimo, as were his five children and many of the Harris grandchildren.
To honour Tom’s legacy of community service, the Tom Harris Community Endowment Fund will support the many causes Tom held dear.
In 2017, Tom’s family established the Tom Harris Community Foundation Fund. This special fund is a permanent legacy fund in tribute to Tom. All contributions made in Tom’s honour will grow in perpetuity. Grants will be made each year from this fund to support a variety of local charitable causes
This legacy for Tom will continue his tradition of giving back and doing great things for many causes and organizations in Nanaimo–now and forever.
